Out and About in an Idyllic Environment
The Black Forest provides many highlights at any time of year. Here, you can enjoy the nature up-close, walk through forests and meadows and breathe in the fresh air. Pursue numerous outdoor activities and head to interesting day trip destinations.
Each week, a Hotel's outdoor guide offers diverse activities, such as morning strolls, hikes, toboggan rides and the popular baked apple afternoon by the bonfire. The guide will also accompany you to a visit to the hydroelectric power stations, the oldest and most important power stations in the Southern Black Forest Nature Park.
How about a family-friendly hike on children hiking trails or a lovely cycling tour in the Southern Black Forest Nature Park? Climbing, running, Nordic walking, motorcycling and riding are also possible in the near surroundings, or you can go on a search for geocaching treasures.
In winter, the Black Forest transforms into a snow paradise that you can discover on skis and cross-country skis, or in snow boots. In the winter village of Todtnauberg, five ski-lifts and 16 pistes are available which are partially covered in snow. Groomed cross-country slopes and ski trails, rolling winter hiking trails and snow boot trails await you in Todtnauberg-Notschrei-Stübenwasen-Feldberg. And you can hold racing contests with the whole family on the toboggan runs. Skates, snow boots, Nordic walking canes, buggies and back carriers can be rented free of charge from Familotel Engel.
If you stay for more than two nights in Familotel Engel, you receive the Hochschwarzwald Card free of charge. With the card, you can visit and use over 100 attractions free of charge, such as the Badeparadies swimming centre, the Feldbergbahn aerial railway, the Fundorena climbing centre, the Steinwasenpark adventure playground or the climbing forest. In winter, along with the Hochschwarzwald Card, you also receive a ski pass for the whole of the Feldberg resort lift network. 170 service providers in the region also offer attractive discounts and reductions to Hochschwarzwald Cardholders.
Extensive Free Time Programme at Familotel Engel
Children are welcome at all times in the Family Hotel Engel in the Upper Black Forest, and can wonderfully and extensively let off steam here.
Childcare is offered for babies older than six months and for children of all ages. Within the free child programme, children can play, make crafts, paint, cook and bake together. Outside, there is a large adventure playground with a climbing tower, wave chute, trampolines, cableway and go-karts.
In the hotel’s own wellness area, rest and relaxation are guaranteed. You can treat yourself with various massages and applications. Special wellness hits are also offered for children and young people.
In the warm indoor swimming pool, you can swim, test out the current machine as well as use water jets for your back and lower legs. The sauna area will tempt you with its Finnish sauna, infra-red cabin and sanarium.
Enjoy Regional Delicacies
In the Familotel Engel, you can enjoy mealtimes in Restaurant Engel, in the Black Forest inn and in the Lachengründle house bar. Children are also welcome in the restaurant.
The cuisine is characterised by special quality, fresh, seasonal and regional ingredients. In spring and summer, you can look forward to strawberries, asparagus, blueberries and chanterelle mushrooms. In autumn and winter, you will find specialities such as “Neuer Süßer” wine and onion tart on the menu. Meat and fish also come from the region.
A particular house speciality is the Black Forest gateau, which is freshly baked daily following a special recipe. You shouldn't miss out on this delight, no matter what. Your host, Alfred Boch, was even named Black Forest gateau ambassador 2016!
In the morning, you can serve yourself at the extensive breakfast buffet. At lunchtime and in the evening, you can eat à la carte, or if you are a half-board guest, from the evening menu. Children can choose something from the kids’ menu (with many popular dishes that every child loves) or in the evening, one of the three main courses of the half-board menu.
During the day, you can try special cakes and Black Forest gateau from our own patisserie. On Monday and Wednesday evenings, we set up a special themed buffet for you. Enjoy the tasty Badisch cuisine and the many specialities!
