In your family holiday at the Hotel Engel in the Upper Black Forest, an extensive activity programme awaits you that leaves nothing to be desired. Have a wonderful time and look forward to the many offers that will tempt you at any time of year.
Baby and Childcare
Our nanny is happy to lovingly look after all babies older than six months and children of all ages. From Monday to Thursday, a changeable programme is offered, Friday is always under the banner of the child kitchen.
Within the child programme, tiny figures can make plaster figures or iron-on transfers, draw and decorate treasure chests and create greetings cards. In the child kitchen, cooking and baking creations are tested together.
In the large playroom there is unlimited fun with games. There is a private children and young people play area available and in the free-time room, all children can hold exciting table-tennis, table-football and air hockey matches.
For free-time activities, buggies, back carriers and sledges (also with small child attachment) can be hired free of charge directly from the hotel.
In the adventure playground, all children can really run wild: Wave chute, trampoline, mini electric tractors and cableways are just waiting to be discovered, and in the play tower there are even sand lifts and conveyor belts. The go-karts are also especially popular and allow you to zoom around the grounds really well.
Indoor Swimming Pool
The indoor swimming pool has a pleasant temperature of 29 degrees and invites you to come in for a swim in any weather. In the water, there is also a massage bay with water jets in the back and lower leg areas as well as a counter-current system. Even in the rest area, you can recharge your batteries.
Wellness and Sauna
The wellness and sauna area invites you to rest and relax with a lot of warmth, it can be found next to the indoor swimming pool. The rest area is connected to the indoor swimming pool in the style of a winter garden with access to the garden. The Finnish sauna is 90 degrees warm and the sanarium has a temperature of 60 degrees. The infra-red cabin will give you an especially heart-warming feeling.
Numerous massages and wellness applications ensure that you feel even more comfortable. A state-recognised masseuse, pool attendant and medical chiropodist as well as a wellness masseuse offer classic, Ayurvedic and foot reflexology massages, foot care and manicures as well as special wellness hits for children and young people.
Free Time Possibilities around the Hotel
In the Southern Black Forest Nature Park and the whole Upper Black Forest area, nature shows its good side and invites you and your family to many activities and trips. A few possibilities:

The Hochschwarzwald Card, which you receive for free if you are spending more than two nights at the Hotel Engel, offers you daily use of over 100 free-time activities, free of charge: Ski pass, experience pool, adventure park, gold, boat trips and much more. This way, you can save up to € 400 per person. And what’s the catch? There isn’t one.
In winter: you can really get your money's worth with skiing, snow book hiking, cross-country skiing and tobogganing with the whole family, and even completely free if you have the Hochschwarzwald Card.
In Todtnauberg, five ski-lifts and a conveyor belt will take you up the mountain. Then, when you’re coming back down, you can use one of 16 different pistes of varying difficult level. Three days per week you can enjoy these wintry delights under floodlights. Little snow fans can also learn to ski from scratch in the beginner fun park and in various ski schools on site. Tobogganers can speed down the longest natural toboggan run in Germany.
Day Trip Tips in the Region
Starting from the Familotel Engel, you can begin a few trips. We would like to present to you three options – you can get more tips, ideas and information at the reception.
Tip 1: Todtnauer Waterfall
Between Todtnauberg and Aftersteg, you will find one of the highest natural waterfalls in Germany, the Todtnauer Waterfall. The listed landmark is one of Germany’s most beautiful natural monuments. This impressive spectacle of nature simply can’t be missed.
Tip 2: The Longest Bench in the World
On the Stübenwasen, at 1,380 metres, you will find the longest bench in the world made from one piece of wood, stretching 44 metres long, with room for couples and space to rest and have a picnic. You also have a great panorama view into the valley and, on clear days, you can even see the Alps.
Tip 3: Steinwasenpark, Exciting Height Games
The adventure park is surrounded by large Black Forest mountains which give the numerous attractions a unique natural backdrop. Set foot on the world’s biggest experience rope bridge, throw yourself into curves on the summer toboggan course and go on Black Forest safari in the big wildlife park. With the Hochschwarzwald Card, this attraction is free for you.
